Restoring the accustomed mobility and achieving the clinical goals - this is what orthoses should achieve. Conventional models usually do not achieve this. It does not matter whether it is a finished model or a custom orthosis based on a plaster cast. The prefabricated products cannot be adapted to the anatomical conditions of the patient and are usually uncomfortable. How well custom-made orthoses fit, in turn, depends largely on the experience and skill of the prosthetist.

Because fit, hardness and designs cannot be tested and adapted to physical changes, patients often wear only uncomfortable compromise solutions. Many of them end up in the wardrobe after a short time. The success of the therapy and the patient's quality of life suffer as a result. This is particularly unfortunate in the case of custom-made orthoses, as their manufacture costs a lot of money and time. In any case, it is difficult to prove the success of the therapy, as the technical possibilities do not allow for meaningful documentation of the treatment.
